Based in Tel Aviv, Israel, I hold a Master degree from the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design (M.Des 2016), where my thesis examined The Effects of Textile Technological Advancements on Fashion Design. I had previously earned my BFA degree from the Jewelry & Fashion Design Department at the Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design (2007), as I am also a recipient of the America-Israel Foundation’s Sharett Artistic Excellence Grant (2007). I hold a professional diploma in Pattern-Making from the Israeli Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor (2010).

I began my professional career in 2007, working as a Footwear Designer for the esteemed boutique label CoupleOf, in Tel Aviv. I continued this practice as the Footwear Designer under Daniella Lehavi’s DL, one of Israel’s leading high-fashion retailers. In 2009, I launched my own apparel brand, DAFFY, with my first independent ‘ready to wear’ collection. DAFFY has become commonly recognizable around Tel-Aviv’s fashion scene.

The past six years have led me to education and teaching as I have had the privilege of serving in the position of the head of Fashion Department at the Cavim School of Design, where I established the Fashion Design program in seven school locations across Israel, and lead courses, lectures, and workshops in related design fields. I have also been engaged in personal commissions and commercial projects, ranging from fashion to conceptual design.

My work has been featured in international publications, and has been showcased in exhibitions and museums both locally and internationally, including the Bloomfiels Science Museum of Jerusalem, the Museum of Italian Jewish Art, Israel’s International Airport’s Terminal 1, ARTLV09, and the Israeli Pavilion at the Hong Kong Design Tech Exhibition, among others. With almost 12k followers, I’m an Instagram Photographer and Brand Influencer. I organically place products and experiences into my Instagram (@daffybarkai) feed through creative, clever and graphic content that speaks from a Tel-Avivian point of view.
